Motorola released their latest public safety body cam. The V700 sends field intelligence to the Aware cloud platform through mobile broadband.
Police, doormen, and joggers wear body cameras. Motorola’s V700 is part of a line designed for large-scale application with command-and-control purposes, including police forces.
“In public safety, outcomes often hinge on an agency’s ability to surface the critical insights necessary to make better, faster decisions,” stated Motorola Solutions executive VP and CTO Mahesh Saptharishi. “The V700’s connectivity to our wider technology ecosystem—from radios and in-car video to command center software—offers an agency unprecedented understanding of an officer’s situation so they can direct the resources needed to succeed in that moment.”
That implies a Holster Aware Bluetooth sensor will record when an officer draws a gun. The V700 will record “giving incident manages immediate awareness” if a cop falls or is unresponsive, but Motorola didn’t disclose if it highlighted their situation.
Motorola claims a patent on “Record-After-the-Fact” technology, which means the camera is always recording a loop to memory before you push record. Ring doorbells employ similar tech—could a patent dispute be coming?
The US-available V700 LTE has two microphones, noise canceling, and 1080P video at 30fps. Motorola claims the field-swappable battery can record 14 hours. The robust device is IP67, and the battery contacts are’self-wiping’ to enable battery replacement easier in dust.
The camera has a 130° horizontal field of vision, fisheye de-warp, and 0.1 lux sensitivity. The 7oz (197g) tablet has GPS, Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi, gyro motion sensing, and 128GB storage.
The iOS/Android app or CommandCentral manages events, but a mono LCD menu at the top lets users tag occurrences after recording. For DEMO click here.
