Instagram has popularized the “square photo” format wherein the picture will automatically adjust to the default size of 1080px by 1080px once it is uploaded. To avoid further hassle like cropping your photo or resizing it, a bunch of free applications have resurfaced to help you easily convert your photo to a square so that it will not come out looking magnified when you post it on Instagram. However, if you don’t want to go over the long process of converting your picture, the best option would be to use the Instagram mobile app in taking the picture firsthand.

  1. Select the perfect digital filter.

Instagram offers a bunch of digital filters you can use to show the mood and emotions you want the viewers to capture as they look at your photo. These digital filters are readily available in the bottom part of the screen and comes free within the application itself. Choosing the perfect filter will depend onthe modifications you want to apply on your picture. There is also a manage option you can click if you want to adjust the brightness, sharpness, saturation, contrast, and a lot more to enhance the quality of your photo.

  1. Think of a creative caption.

The caption will serve as the title of your photo and will create a big impact in the post as a whole. It will describe the inspiration behind your photo and explain why it is worthy sharing to other people. It must be creatively written to encourage the people to take the time and read your post in order to understand what you are trying to tell them as they look at your photo. The option for tagging people and adding location is not compulsory, but if you want to do so, you can also do that after typing your caption.

  1. Include appropriate hashtags.

Hashtags are also a “thing” on Instagram, not just on Twitter and Facebook. A hashtag is included to provide a sneak peek to the other users of what your post is all about. It must be related to the concept of the photo for it to make sense. If your account is on public, your photo will appear in the search tab along with the other Instagram pictures with the same tag whenever the specified hashtag is clicked. One tip for placing hashtags is you should limit your hashtags to less than ten; so that your post will not come out as a spam. Remember, in Instagram, the lesser hashtags, the better.

  1. Share your photo to the world.

The last step would be uploading your picture on Instagram; or if you would like, the link can also be shared to your other personal social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter. You can decide which of your accounts will be linked to your Instagram account so that it will automatically post on your Facebook wall or Twitter profile the moment you upload a photo on Instagram. As you click the “check” at the top right of the screen, your picture will be uploaded to the site and will immediately appear on your timeline.

Just a reminder, millions of people can see what you upload on every social networking site. Be wary of the kind of photos you are posting especially if your account is publicized. Instagram has a lot of active users who are increasing every second. So, if you are interested in taking pictures, don’t hesitate to download Instagram and start snapping, editing, and posting as much as you want!
